Desktop Publishing (DTP) is the process of formatting and laying out a translated document so it matches the visual design of the original. This includes fonts, spacing, images, columns, and page layout. This step is necessary for brochures, manuals, packaging, marketing materials, and any document where visual presentation matters as much as the words themselves.
Translation alone often changes text length significantly (Spanish text, for example, typically runs 20–25% longer than English), which can break a document's original layout if not addressed. Some languages, Arabic and Hebrew, for instance, read right-to-left, requiring the entire layout to be mirrored, not just the text translated. The Expert Translators DTP team handles these adjustments so your translated materials look as polished and professional as the originals.
This service is typically paired with Document Translation or Localization. The translation comes first, and DTP ensures the final deliverable is print-ready or publish-ready in its new language.

Multi-Script Experience: Our team is experienced in formatting both Latin-script languages and right-to-left/non-Latin scripts (Arabic, Hebrew, Mandarin, and others), ensuring layouts are correctly mirrored and rendered.
Industry-Standard Software: We work directly in the file formats you already use, like InDesign, Illustrator, PowerPoint, and more, so your team doesn't need to convert or rebuild files after delivery.
Visual Fidelity to the Original: Layouts, fonts, and design elements are matched as closely as possible to your source document, adjusting only what's necessary to accommodate text expansion, contraction, or script direction.
Print- and Publish-Ready Output: Final files are delivered ready for print or digital publishing, no additional formatting work required on your end.
File & Layout Review:
We review your source files and design elements to understand the original layout and identify formatting challenges specific to the target language(s).
Translation Integration:
Translated text is placed into the document layout, accounting for text expansion/contraction and, where needed, right-to-left script direction.
Design Adjustment:
Fonts, spacing, and page breaks are adjusted so the document reads naturally and matches the visual intent of the original.
Proofing Review:
A linguist reviews the formatted document to confirm no text was cut off, mistranslated during layout adjustments, or displayed incorrectly.
Delivery:
You receive print-ready or publish-ready files in your original software format.
